About the Course
Description
This workshop will introduce participants to core GIS workflows of urban planning, urban design, and landscape design. These workflows cover processes such as 3D site context creation, site analysis, zoning, schematic design, scenario comparison and impact assessment.
A short initial presentation will provide a brief overview of how GIS can support planning and design projects. This part will introduce the main Esri GIS solutions that will be explored in the hands-on portion of the workshop.
The first part of the hands-on portion will introduce basic online solutions for 3D context creation and site analysis. It will also cover how the context and analyses can be brought into other Esri and design solutions. Key solutions that we will use are Analytics in ArcGIS Online, the Living Atlas, and ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud.
The second part of the workshop will focus on zoning and massing, creating different scenarios for a proposal and assessing their output metrics. Interoperability with other design solutions will also be covered. The final portion of this part will focus on community engagement. Key solutions that we will use are ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS StoryMaps and ArcGIS Urban.
